| notes: | Reissue of the book from 1996. The result of an important scientific study of the kinetics of petanque, especially shooting. With the co-operation of a great number of scientists, some top French players such as Marco Foyot, Laurent Morillon and Réné Coulomb and with the use of a slow-motion camera and a throwing robot, Bruno changed a number of long standing views. For instance, he found that the best way of practising the skill of shooting is by alternating the distances from 6 to 9 meters, then from 7 to 10, and so on, instead of gradually increasing distances. Good shooting is not a matter of physical force, but more of a supple and harmonious movement of the throwing arm, accompanied by a good balance control of the whole body. In other words, the centre of gravity of the body, which normally is between the feet, should gradually be transmitted to the supporting foot on the side of the throwing arm. Robert Bruno is a physical education teacher at the University of Toulon in France. His book is a 'must' for petanque coaches and players who want to improve their ability. |
