notes:One of the best and most complete books (but anyhow the first one!) on techniques, tactics and psychology of the game of petanque. It is written with a great sense of humour and still remains educational. Otello appeals continually to the intelligence of the reader/player in order to enlarge his comprehension of the game.
In particular the author deals with the techniques for novices and for the more experienced players the tactics and the psychology of the game. Otello gives a detailed explanation of all the factors that should be taken into consideration before the choice of a good strategy. Included is a lot of advice and hints for the three disciplines of a triple: pointing, shooting and 'milieu', the choice of boules and how to measure a boule on the ground. In addition, there are chapters on the game of jeu provençal (the ancestor of petanque), on playing for money ('the so-called 'parties d'intérêts') and on illegal boules.
At the end of the book there is a number of brilliant and authentic anecdotes. That is why Otello is called in France the 'poet of petanque'.
And, not forgetting, the petanque ABC, which is not just for fun but also to learn from.
'Plein soleil sur la pétanque' is required literature for every serious petanque player.
