I know the possibility of this happening is low, but what if during the course of play a player attempts a shot and the cochennet was clipped on the front edge, or ricochets off a boule in back causing it to go backwards close to the (or even behind) the players feet in throwing circle?.

From Article 9 – Dead Jack
The jack is deemed dead :
(iv) When the jack is displaced to more than 20m for Seniors and Juniors, or 15m for Cadets and Minors, or less than 3m from the throwing circle.
