The what to to and not to do during a game goes here..

After our old server died we have had a hard time here at petanque.org.
But finally we have cracked it. This new forum is database-driven, and is made to fit with all the other parts of petanque.org. In the near future all clubs may make their own forums by logging into the club database and click one single button!
We are also planning a feature that will allow clubs to use the forum in such a way that it will be integrated in their own homepages, we'll add the possibility of templates for the pages.
in the mean time - keep the discussions going!

we are awaiting your feedback here. Please feel free to comment on anything about petanque.org.
Should hotboule be different? Do you hate pop-up windows? Are the news boring?
Tell us -and we'll improve it!

I deliberately haven't used a monospaced font to see how this will work.
It would be useful to be able to number each boule to make references
easier.
Problem:
x
(ring) -- 8m . o
You (X) have the last boule to play. Your boule is holding, 20cm from the
coche, the opponent's boule (o) is 50cm behind. How should you play your
last boule?
Some answers:
1. Point, trying to get 2 points.
Danger: you knock the coche, giving the opponents a point.
Tip: remember o is 50cm from the coche. Rather than aiming directly at the
coche, with the risk of moving the coche and giving the point away, play to
the side. If you miss, your own boule is still on and there's less of a risk
of moving the coche to the opponent's boule.
2. Shoot. If you're holding 3rd place (and 4th, 5th, etc) hitting o will
gain you extra points. If you're not holding 3rd then only a carreau will
gain an extra point.
Danger: you might hit your own boule (we've all done it!). You might hit the
coche which could go anywhere and give points to the opponents.
You need to decide how confident and accurate you are at shooting to
evaluate the risk.

10m when throwing from the circle, 20m if it moves during a game. Why not buy a copy of the rules!

Yes, the distance is now reduced from 30m to 20m.
Remember : the distance is to be measured from the outside point of the ring closest to the coch, and to the edge of the coch closest to the ring. :-)
I've many times seen people measuring to the top of the coch !

I don't think you have much choice. If you only have one ball to play you must point (unless a shot can get you several points). When you've decided to point you should always try to play your ball as far away from the coche as possible (meaning the ball still has to have the point)
For example you try to take the point 45cm on the other side of the coche than you other ball. The risk of not making 2 points is fairly big, but the risk of touching the coche is almost non-existing. Of course you should always look at the terrain before you take a final decision.

And also, "Ken" please take the time to see that the initial e-mail you're responding to was sent 5 years ago. Why don't you either:
1) send your foul worded response directly via e-mail; or
2) at least use language that befits a human being.
