In a tournament on weekend oponants objected to my placing foot on piste where i wanted partner in doubles to play too. I removed before he played but was pulled up by opposition as they felt I was flattening area he was playing to. I find it helpful to have my partner ""spot"" for me is this legal?

Perhaps this is the time to use those fancy laser pointers!!!
A) you don't disrupt the ground with a laserbeam
B) you don't have to walk - just aim the laser the "the place"
C) in a pinch, you could blind the opposition by aiming the laserbeam into their eyes.
(I'm kidding about that last one...)

Article 17 – Behaviour of Players and Spectators during a Game
Snip -- Only his or her team-mate/s may stand between the throwing circle and the jack.
You may put one foot or both feet wherever you please on the playing area... and leave it (them) there for as long as it pleases your partner!
You control your game (following/respecting the rules) assuming you are from a democratic country!
HTH,
Guy
