A new trend seems to be starting here
that you dont rake the piste after a game.
is this correct under rules

Frequently using just a rake doesn't level the terrain smoothly enough... that's why I drive a 4 ton bulldozer on to my terrain and ensure everything is level. I do this after EVERY game.
Of course, many of my club members don't life all of the noise and diesel smoke - BUT they sure do like it when their boules roll straight!

You guys are funny lol Ill amend my origional question. I had meant that at tournaments should the piste be raked at the end for the next play to start.

Jeffrey,
First of all, it's www.michiganpetanque.com not org... and secondly, it's when you use the steam-roller that the club disapproves... you totally flattened 4 sets of steel boules the last time you "levelled" the terrain.
I think we should return to a "plain old raking" policy.

Then comparing your petanque terrain with other petanque terrains is somewhat like comparing a miniature golf terrain with a real golf terrain!
When you play exclusively on an "easy" terrain you tend to overvalue yourself as a petanque player. When you go and play on a terrain where elites play you then find out your real value.
I know! I play on easy terrains too! But recently, I have convinced some terrain owners to make their terrains less level, to add some stones, and not to rake for a long while! No more miniature petanque!

Nadine,
They're hilarious, aren't they! In answer to your question, it sounds like a kindness on your part to rake the terrain after a game. Most of us are either too tired or we just don't bother but if you want to, there doesn't seem to be a reason not to.

Look Charles... it's not MY fault all of you left your boules on the terrain. I did blow the air-horn several times to alert you all that the steam-roller was approaching.
AND I did replace Fionna's cat... (with another from the local animal shelter)
regards,
Jeff

Guy:
Thanks for the advice. I had a dump-truck haul in a half-ton of broken glass bottles, half-bricks, and assorted shards of pottery and have been laying it all over my petanque terrain.
Let me tell you, I'm going to be a Foyot after practicing on THIS surface!

I think you'll find this probably contravenes Article 2a)(iv) " As a general rule, the boules must not be tampered with in any way, nor altered or modified after machining by the approved manufacturer. "
Perhaps Mike Pegg would be kind enough to advise - only joking, Mike :-)
PS. Why not try a JCB next time, instead of a bulldozer?

Jeffrey,
Are you sure it was a dump-truck and not a dumb-truck???
LOL,
Guy
By the way, I hope you will play at the American Cup Aug. 20-21 in Quebec, Canada.
