Hi Daniel,
The dead ball line should be 1 mt in from the boundary all around the perimete or the site. plus a 2mt section throu the middle with a solid barrier.
Local club rules can relax the sides to 0.5 meters.
This then gives you 18 pistes

Yes, the dead ball line can also be the marked terrain line...in fact, all the places I have played have only one line.

Daniel, the advantage of not having a separate dead-boule (ball) line is that it saves precious space.
The disadvantage is that babbling social players who don't play attention to the game are crowding the player in the circle who tries, often in vain, to concentrate on his play (pointing or shooting to the iron).
And since one of those players in the circle is me....

Realistically how many pistes do you need?
Assuming people play doubles 18 pistes is enough for 72 people to play at once.
I would suggest that if a club is regularly getting this number of people playing the way to fix the problem would be to promote triples.
Or to extend the hours of use by playing at more different times or extending the period that is available to play.
