How do you choose the boules diameter? Is there a chart somewhere or a trick to measure from one point to another on your hand ? - Or do you just have to try different size of boules.?
Thanks in advance
Otto

While there are methods for measuring boules to the hand:

I think the best method is to use other player's boules and see which seems most comfortable in your hand.
There are some who want to use 80mm boules (for shooting) or 71mm boules (for pointing) - but unless you try out those sizes in boules - you may purchase something quite uncomfortable to use.
I'd say that if you have small hands, go for 73mm and if you have larger hands 75mm... they're more common sizes anyhow.

Personally My hand measurement suggests I should use a 74 mm ball however I find a 73mm ball more comfortable.
It is surprising how different a 1mm difference in size feels.

Yes I was taking about the spherical metal things that people throw about when they play petanque.
Do I have to speak French to be a competent petanque player??
Personally I would only use the various measuring methods as a guide ideally you need to play with several sizes (of boule) to decide what you feel comfortable with.
