Actually, there have been various thoughts over the years to setting up a youth program under FPUSA. Last year FPUSA sponsored a major event at the Louisiana Children's Museum in New Orleans which was attended by 3,500 children. Other FPUSA members, some clubs, and some of the equipment suppliers have also done what they could with their limited resources. A broader approach was intended and planned. It was sidelined due to distractions faced by the FPUSA Board.
Before you posted your note, I had invited your good friend Hans Kurz to develop just such a program, and he indicated that he would work on it. You might use it as a topic on the radio the two of you host weekly. Perhaps over a few weeks you might get helpful feedback.
A truly national program will involve a lot of work and money. It can't be done within FPUSA's current staff and finances. This will require administrative leadership and funding creativity that we hope Hans can put together.
There is no reason to try to cast stones when people are actively working on solutions.
We hope that you can find a way to be a positive force on developing the program that we all agree is important.
