Coloured boules

There are some coloured boules by default, e.g. one type of La Boule Bleue (what's in a name!). But that colour is a thin layer of paint that will wear out in a couple of weeks.

Colouring boules completely (in the material) is impossible, because the metals boules are heated up to about 1000 degrees Celsius!

There are only two solutions in my eyes: using plastic material (like the Italian game of bocce or raffa) or colouring boules temporarily by thick permanent markers. We used this method at our tournament international Batavia Petanque, last year in Holland. We learned it from the big international tournament La Mayonnaise in Stockholm. The method was also used at the Grand Masters, a couple of weeks ago in The Netherlands. See some pictures I made (also the colouring of the boules!) at http://www.boulistenaute.com/modules/myalbum/viewcat.php?cid=33.
