While it is technically possible to add all sorts of surface coatings to metal to colour them such as coloured galvanising or coloured chrome plating.
Many of these coatings are very durable and should last several years of regular use.
However article 2a part (iv) or article 30 in Australia at least are interpreted in a manor that make painting/coating boule illegal.
As a casual player I think it would be good to be able to have coloured boules.
