My short answer would be, “I don’t know”…
However, I’m sure both boules are excellent, both are “top-of-the-range” boules. Reports for the Bi-Pole seem to be generally, “excellent performance but the boules wear out quickly.”
It does raise the basic question, “How do you choose between different boules?” Most accounts from players or magazines are ‘subjective’ and usually very favourable to most boules!
Is there any way of having any kind of ‘objective’ evaluation of different boules? I realise it would be difficult, particularly for pointing on different terrains, i.e. a hard, smooth terrain vs. a rough, stony terrain.
If any one boule offered a marked improvement over other boules, you’d find everybody using it. The reality is that players use a variety of different boules – unfortunately it’s the arm and not the boule that makes the biggest difference.
Personally, I don’t think I’m a good enough player to really notice much difference between different boules – if you miss a shot the choice of boule isn’t that important! I often favour a boule with a good grip, usually carbon steel, over stainless, which I find can be slightly slippery in comparison.
Regards,
Ray
