I am certain that the rule book I have seen gives a time limit between the boule coming to rest and the next being thrown. I think it was 1 minute (I have not played competions for many years). If this rule is enforced then there is no need for games to go on for three hours!!!
In competition I always used to carry a stopwatch, so that when the opponents started to slow-up I made great play of starting the watch. If nothing else it worries them, they make mistakes, the game is over. Either way, no long drawn out matches

Tripplette; 6 players, 1 point per end, each player taking his 1 minute to play equals 6 minutes, plus 1 minute to throw the jack makes it 7 min per end. With a score of 13-12, that would be 25 ends times 7 minutes, comes to 175 minutes, 5 min short of 3 hours, and that does not take into account any arbitre time if called.

I'm sorry, just got off work and am tired. Please double the 175 minute time,as each player has 2(two) boules.Makes it an even 350 minutes possible,5 hours and 50 min, and thats with your stop watch on at all times. And, by the way, if your opposition crumbles and makes mistakes at the mere sight of a stopwatch, they were no good to begin with and you would not have to resort to anything but throwing your boules in order to win.

What on earth is a "game that takes too long" anyway. You go to the courts to play a game you love, otherwise you would not be there.
So,explain to me how something you love can take too long?
It is my experience in life that the longer something pleasant takes, the better it is.

Sometimes it can be a problem in competitions where you need to play a set number of matches in a set amount of time.
An average of 1 hour per round seems about right, so if 1 or more matches take considerably longer, it can disrupt the whole programme for everybody.
HTH
