Light surface rust shouldn’t normally be a problem, as it quickly scuffs off when you play. Some say rust improves the grip.
Rust is only a problem if it really gets a hold and starts eating into the metal. Unless you leave your boules permanently outside in the rain, this is unlikely. Has anybody seen a set of boules that are normally cared for, destroyed by rust? I never have.
Although it’s difficult to tell from the photo, it doesn’t look like rust. It would be interesting to hear what Obut has to say – why not email them and see?
BTW I did check a set of Match+ boules last night and could see no sign of the weld or rust.
