Boule crossing other lanes

In the English translation of the new rules adopted in Grenoble in September, Article 18 makes reference to a boule becoming dead, "...when, on marked terrains, the boule completely crosses more than one of the lanes alongside the lane in use."

Does this mean, "... completely crosses more than one [meaning at least two]of the lanes alongside the lane in use."?

Or, what I believe to be more likely, "...completely crosses more than [the space occupied by] one of the lanes alongside the lane in use"?

It's interesting to me how many statements can be interpreted in more than one [meaning at least two!] way[s].

Hi Gary,

The second meaning is the good one: at least one lane.

The French text also is rather confusing (the same two interpretations), that's why I asked in Grenoble your international umpire Mike Pegg what should be meant. He answered me: 'the second one', so the space occupied by at least one of the lanes. He also told me that in the English translation there wouldn't be a single possibility of a double interpretation! So, also in the English translation there still are two interpretations possible now... Strange!
