You know, I always thought that there realy was no advantage to tossing outthe cochonnet. I mean, any player with a month of experience can basically play to a cochonnet that is thrown anywhere (validly) - so as Guy says ... it is more advantageous to have the last boule.
Perhaps the rules would have been better if the cochonnet was nitially thrown by the team which had the point in the previous round - BUT, the first boule is tossed by the opponent. Then you'd have a true vested interest in getting the point each time (beyond merely advancing your own score).
