I recall once, that a fellow-member of this site posted that he/she plays in the Southwestern US.
Of note, was an interesting fanned-out, if you will, throwing area. They did not rotate ends as is normally the case. Rather, due to the bright SW sunlight, they kept the sun to their backs and returned continually to the same end. The "starting/throwing" end, if you will, was of the normal dimension, but the sides fanned out, as if at the point of a triangle and expanding outward.
I forget his/her exact dimensions of the wider end but it seemed interesting.
Anyone ever hear of a "Roman Ball" court dimension, where two, concentric cicles act as the playing area with the smaller, inner circle being the zone within which the roman ball would be bounced? *in the boule's case, it would obviously act differently.
Players in Roman Ball stand outside the outer circle, bouncing the roman ball inside the inner circle. I wonder, if this would add an interesting dimension to Petanque.
Just have to try and find out for myself I s'pose.
regards.
