Illegal Petanque Exposed

First of all...Thanks to Jimmy Westfield for his sense of fair play and dedication to the purity of the sport of Petanque regardless of his experience.

MBMB (mulutiple boules...multiple bouchons) was born of creative minds on a lark...in between tournament play...the result of a crazy suggestion between open minds.

And so it is.

Many unanticipated situations occur as this game transpires. I saw one guy get 7 points in one hand by scoring on the two bouchons we played. Good for him...shame on us.

For the record, I have never played 3d chess on a triple level board. I doubt that I ever will. Will I ever play tennis with two balls in play at once? Yeah, for a hoot.

MBMB is an alternate game. To be sure, every player is out for himself. So what's new about that?

One would think that these games are necessarily shorter because of the multiple scoring possibilities. Rarely so in my experience.

In Petanque, I think we like the game of doubles so much because we each get 3 boules. Here's a game where you get 4,5 and 6, boules and 2,3 and 4 bouchons. Simple math says boles x bouchones = Happiness. It's exponential.

Is it illegal? I don't know. An opinion by FIPJP is notwithstanding.

Probably just an American anomoly...again.

Interesting post: Illegal MBMB? I have never heard of it before, but I am a petanque novice. IF I understood it correctly, a player gets to two jackballs and more than the standard about of boules during a game/match?

Sounds odd, just from my novice perspective.

Eric, in Alaska

Its ok. The petanque game is the same... Think Alpha Point. Two Jacks...Your alpha point closest to any bouchon forces your opponent to play. It's easy Petanque.

I see, the boule closest to the jackball forces opponent. As a beginner I'll stick with one jackball and the usual amount of boules.

Eric

Eric,

You are in charge of your own game. This is an International forum. Those players in New Zealand, Great Briton, and Thailand will take this MBMB game up as their need arises. After all, it only takes throwing two bouchons out when only one was expected. Deal with the fun that presents itself.

I grew up skiing on two skinny sticks and then the snowboarders changed my world.

I'm looking to the French readers of this site to throw the First Two Bouchon Invitational Tournament....ever. It's gonna be fun.

Regards
Tom
