we are in our second season with our boule court, but are having much difficulty finding a suitable playing surface. our friends on long island, where we learnt the game, have different natural materials available to them geographically speaking. would any one be able to suggest a material that would work well and be available readily? we live on vancouver island. could crushed limestone work? thanks, kevin and sally

The term our mud doctor suggested was “graded crush”.
Crushed rock with enough fine material so that it would compact down hard.
This style of material is often used for the base layer of roads.
You can then sprinkle a shallow layer of gravel of some sort on top.

Crushed shell on top of crushed limestone would work perfectly. Using a mechanical tamper helps.
