Can someone help me find the rule regarding where to draw the circle when a jack has been knocked out of the playing area (i.e., over the dead boule line)?
I have always told people that you start from where the jack was situated before being displaced, but someone suggested that it's supposed to be from where the jack crosses the dead boule line. And now I can't find the ruling in the English translation.
Am I just overlooking it?
Thanks,
Gary

Article 12:
At the following end the teams continue on the terrain which had been allotted to them and the jack is thrown again from the place it occupied when it was displaced, subject to the conditions of Article 7.

It would seem to me that article 15 may apply.
How do you return to were the jack was displaced from if it is not marked?
On most grounds having the circle drawn in one place or another is unlikely to make a vast difference to the next end played.
For a social game this probably makes little deference and there is something to be said for just going with the flow.
If it is a formal game there should be an umpire who should be happy to offer guidance.
For most of us it is only a game so you need to enjoy it.

Thanks, Jac. I guess I kept skipping over Article 12 when looking for my answer because its heading seems to imply that it only addresses "Jack moved into another game." After looking though I see that you are correct. The words "marked out or not" would cover my situation.
