Breaking the Petanque World Record

It is a hot shower and a night's sleep in a warm bed later but I have not cleansed the wonderful memories of the experience that was our Memorial Day weekend of breaking the World's Record for Longest Petanque Marathon.

One of the most surprising things I noticed is that our level of petanque play did not diminish throughout the span of the event. In the evenings, we played just as well as if it were the day - in fact, perhaps a little better in the evenings (in my personal estimation).

The main concept of the success for this World Record Breaker is teamwork coupled with organization. As alternates switched in with active players on a regular schedule, through hot days and chilly nights -we all felt that tribal bond moving towards a clear goal.

The real heroes here are our volunteers who kept us able to complete the record. They fed us, looked after our health needs, kept us comfortable, and provided remarkable on-live video feeds, photographic evidence, and kept out spirits up. Thank you so much!

Looking at my hand, completed rubbed free of fingerprints from all of the boule throwing, I think I'll take a day off from playing boule - but you can be sure I'll be right back to my regular playing come Tuesday!

I invite those who participated and those who watched to send in any comments/feedback/questions.

It was great experience being part of the marathon. I am recovering from those three hot and cold days of petanque game. I adore petanque.

The experience was priceless!

It was fun to put together. Fun to see it through to fruition. Fun to see my petanque friends. Fun to play at night with the huge lights in my face. Walk out onto the crunchy, frosty grass (maybe not?). Having my girlfriend calling to complain that I don't have my coat on because she's still watching me on our live webcast feed while she's warm in bed at home (Big Sister is Watching!) And after 48 hours, until someone else breaks *our* record, YOU'll never know what it's like to see 13 on the scoreboard after all that time on the piste! LOL!

Thanks to all who participated!

Thanks,
Joe

Thank to you Joe for organizing it so perfectly.

The "48 Hour" twelve will forever hold this weekend in our memory.

Jeff.
