“La Franc” boules are manufactured in Thailand.
What is peoples experience with “La Franc” boules?
I would assume they are more common in Asian countries.
thanks
Don

Dear Don,
I do not have experience with boule "La Franc" from Thailand but I know that Thailand embrace petanque very seriously. Petanque is part of the Thailand's army training (perhaps to develop the esprit-de-corps).
I could assume that the boule “La Franc”, is a serious item too.
Ask the Aussies what happen to them when they went to play in Thailand.
What is the average selling price and where to get them?

Hello,
I recently crossed the Thai border to Laos at Chong Mek (Thailand) - Viangtao (Laos) on a short visit to the Laos market there (day trip - no visa required) and picked up a set of 6 regular size and weight chrome plated metal boules and a jack (cochonnet?) for 400 baht or about 10 US dollars in the market there.
The boules don't bear any manufacturer's or weight engravings. Having never played petanque before I really bought them just as a souvenir, but now after trying them I play most days in the garden with family and friends. Are there local / farang clubs in the Bangkok area we could join?
Chris

I own 2 sets of best quality boule La Franc offer which is stainless one. They are the only manufacturer I know which adopt the welding technique called "friction welding". Please look it up if you are interested in this technique. Their best set of boule has hardness of half tender and this was the reason why I stop using it ( I prefer very soft boule with less rebound).

They seem very competitively priced compared to the European boule however this could be local resellers having high costs rather than large differences in wholesale prices.

Hi i started playing last spring and started with a pair of La franc carbon steel in black (700gr 75mm) .they come with serialnumber/size and weight infos engraved and are approved tournement balls. I made my buying decission simply due to being the only pair of that size available in the shop. The black coating wore off after a week of intense playing. overall feel and behavior is very good and the competitive prize makes them great for beginners, who want an affordable pair of tournament balls. Even after oxidation no welding lines aren't visible and the dents it got from hitting other boules are hardly visible. So with regards to durability they seem to be quite nice too. La franc is a huge sport equipment manufacturer that has a fairly new little Boule department. On their website you can see pitctures of the factory and and the manufactering process.
