We (like many others I am sure) have had problems with local licencees and teams in lateness of finishing matches and in team captains picking partners that do not make best use of the piste and sometimes we may be waiting over 30 minutes for a game to commence. What remedies have others come up with. We have considered a wording to the local rules to stipulate that a game must commence if players are eligible (ie - not played too many games in the evening) they must play within 10 minutes of the last game finishing. Any experiences out there or suggestions?

I am looking for people who would like to play in the Peoria, Illinois area. I am trying to get a court built at a local park but need to know someone besides me will use it! Thanks

I think that there should be a time limit on sorting out teams, especially in the evening. Somthing like 15 minutes. Because it is unfair on the other player(s) who are ready & able to play & it is especially frustrating in the evening when light is deteriorating rapidly.

Use a gravel parking lot to play pétanque on. A natural court between trees is even better. Who wants to play under the sun?

I practice often with 6 boules on a baseball diamond or on a school yard close by. It does not take long before somebody comes along (many of them kids of all ages) watch me and start asking question about that strange game I am playing.
You get one person interested who gets one person interested and soon you have too many players....dreaming?
Get extra cheap boules for them to play with you.
If you wait for people to respond to your msg on internet, you may be too old before someone from Peoria, Illinois area respond.
Cheers,
Guy

I agree with what Guy says. You'll usually find the local press will help publicise anything new/unusual.
A little story here from Brighton in the UK: when I first threw a boule here, it was on an all-weather football pitch - we had no official terrain. I went on my own to have-a-go as I didn't know any other players. Within 5 minutes, another player arrived with a set of boules.
He lived just across the road. He'd bought a set of boules some time before in France but also didn't know anyone else who played. His wife had been out walking the dog, saw me playing and rushed back home to tell her husband somebody was playing!
The Council then kindly built a terrain on the seafront which has attracted hundreds of players and half the giftshops in Brighton are now selling the cheap Chinese made leisure boules.
Good luck.
