Conventional wisdom is that it’s better to use a lighter boule for shooting. Are there players who use a heavier boule for shooting? Any comments?

salut,
if you like to play heavy bowls as a shooter, please do so. when we meet in a 1/4-final, i will know, what you have worked up to that moment and that your shooting arm will be 5cm longer than the other one.
i personally prefer my ms 75/690 and would never play a bowl over 700g.
contercarreautic grettings from germany.

I used to shoot with my 730g boule. I found them really great over long distance (8 metres plus), but I had less accuracy and control over the shorter distances, and was hopeless at 6 metres. Needless to say, following a bit of coaching I'm now using 680g boule, with much greater accuracy over all distances.

- In Belgium there is one player who uses 800 g boules. By the way, he is Belgian champion. Anyway, I wondered his boules.
Of course, I shoot always straigth to the Iron. And with these giants there happens no pinhigh at all. There is the reason.
But his way to play was wery fast but accurate. I beliewe that those big heavy boules was able to slow him a bit.
-Otherwise he might throw too fast.

Anybody has a sensible explanation for the information above?

Whilst it is difficult to see how a heavier boule would make it more difficult to shoot at shorter distances, I would just add that, IMHO, it’s just as easy to miss a shot at 6m as it is to shoot at longer distances.

I am normally a pointer, first player to point in doubles and triples, when there is a shooter in my team. When i take the role of shooter, I see that my shots over long distance, 8-12 mtrs are more effective, I do use a set of 730g/73mm bullets and I am a short man with small hand. I think because I shoot high, I am a plombeur , the reason for my success I believe is because of the angle of elevation, I do it without too much exhersion and when the boule makes contact the impact is very strong and my ball have tendency to dig in causing a carreau . It could be beginner's luck, it has been only about a year that i atarted shooting. I still believe I am on the right track as a shooter. I usually finished up a little bit sore but no problem.
