Madagascar beat Belgium in the final.

It was somehow natural that at the end the team from Madagascar won the World Championship at Reunion. Madagascar has for many years played a brilliant game of petanque, and when the championship were organized very close to their own island it was at last their turn to win.

Another team who has been playing great petanque is Belgium. They should have been in the final last year, but when they reached the final match this year they could not beat the heat.

For the first time since 1989 there were no French team in the final, but France 1 claimed the last medals by beating Thailand in the broncefinal.

Semifinals

Madagascar - France 1 13-8

Bronce final
