If you live in Brooklyn, there is ample opportunity to play!Brooklyn Boule plays in McCarren Park on Wednesday nights at 8pm (with lights!) and on Sundays at 3pm.Tristram is always out there, with extra boules, to welcome new players.Brooklyn Boule BlogAnd Brooklyn Petanque holds tournaments on the courts at Pit Stop Restaurant on Columbia St every other Saturday at 11:30am.They just posted this s
The Bee's where at home today against Oxshott. The only information I have is that the Bee's won 6 - 3.Captains can I have a little more of a report on your games PLEASE.Marlene our old landlady made a surprise visit to the club this afternoon. She is taking up a pub in the lake district called the White Lion, needs a lot of work done, she is keeping well.
With temperatures well into the high 70's, we had our first meeting with Southampton Pilgrims. After the triples the score was 1 game all.Going into the doubles the first game was won by Ian and Jeff, we only needed one more win from the other two games... We lost the first and it was all up to David and Hazel they were well down but then came back into the game just to be pipped at the end 13 - 11
Hi T,I read your frustration on being all alone on a splendid Wed night.Indeed, what a shame. Shouldn't be: not in May, and not when I know we shipboules to Brooklyn on a regular basis, and there's nowhere else to play in NY at night!I'll make another post on our blog. But I'd recommend that, right on the top of your blog you clearly mention in BIG letters the play times on Wed & Sun. Right now,
Thousands of miles away, in entirely different surroundings, yet strikingly similar:a local TV report on a typical long (4-day) weekend tournament in Salon de Provence. The month of May is famous for its 3-day work weeks.77 doubles teams, with a purse of 350 Euros ($ 550). And announcing another one for next week, with 50 ladies triples teams. All of this on the parking lot in front of Café de Be
Wine country inspired me to coin a new term for 'home courts': a mix of 'boulodrome' - the usual French term for a boules terrain in the village (as in hippodrome, vélodrome & aérodrome), and 'home'. Makes sense?Let's start with Peggy & Davids', built on what was once a useless slope in their backyard. Useless no more! They also have a beautiful collection of old "boules cloutées". Whenever I se
Last weekend I had the good fortune to witness the Season Opener party of the Big Boules of Dry Creek club in Healdsburg, CA.Jerry & Susie were the gracious hosts this time and had lined the driveway with witty mini petanque billboards. All the right ingredients were there: brilliant weather, excellent food, exquisite wine in more than adequate quantities (several members have vineyards), an idylli
Their league started in 2006, became a member of the Int'l Federation in 2007, and they are on a roll.A lot of young people, guys ànd gals, quite different from the traditional image.Great website too. "Plieniniai Rutuliai" means "steel balls"Ready, set, action: (good - but loud - music warning)
Again I apologise for my previous post but I don't believe that "Jeppy" is the only one who reads the Brooklyn Boule Blog.......On another note;As we all know, it is inexcusable to forget to bring a Cochonnet with you when you set out for a nice game of Petanque. Unfortunately though it does happen, and more times than I'd like. Standing on the Piste with Boules in hand, it is hard to turn around
If I may, I have a gripe or two.......I'm not to sure whether it's the weather or the "What ever!" but Wednesday's turn out was terrible. Sometimes I wonder why I bother.. A beautiful Wednesday night and no one was around???? I don't get it, there is room for so much more. two playable Pistes in the newly enhanced stadium lights. Yet no players ventured into Brooklyn. The Wasps where at home to Shipwrecks, this is the first time they have visited us and they came away clear winners.Shipwrecks did have a bit of insider information as Beryl and Maureen (ex Vikings) are now playing for the Shipwrecks. The Shipwrecks won the first two triples, even thou we did make a come back form 8 - 0 down to lose 13 - 11.We did manage to win one of the doubles but it was quite c
Chalk up another loss for Honigman (Pat, Tim, & Kevin) - as Wayne, Jeff and Mikey [team captain] school them in a 13/2 slaughter.
Lots of players are asking me how I manage flying around all the time with boules in my carry-on luggage. Here's my advice:1) take the boules out and put them separately, clearly visible in one of those plastic baskets.2) tell the TSA inspector, if possible before the basket goes through the machine, that you have 3 ( 6, 9, whatever..) "bocce" balls with you.If I see the word "bocce" doesn't r
With a lucky break in the rain clouds, the weekday petanquers came out to toss a few boules, and who joined us but that all around athlete, Mike "Red" Downs with his new Obut 120 boules. There was plenty of jockeying for space, with good tight points tossed in all-around, but with an equal number of accurate shots from James, Tim, and Jeff. Kevin C. made some really excellent points - remarkable f

Another excellent day for lunchtime petanque in Detroit at Cadillac Square. Kevin, Tim, and aron teamed up to do battle verses Pat, Wayne, and Jeff. The first game was ugly, with PWJ winning 13/2. The second game, a "revenge" also failed, but not as easily, 13/8 - the victory to PWJ.

In the Blyth Division, the Harbour Inn Southwold triumphed over their local neighbours Bell Inn Walberswick by the margin of 3-1 to be in second spot behind Hoxne, following the first round of matches.By a quirk of the fixture list, Hoxne and Southwold meet each other on May 18th whilst Walberswick entertain North Cove, in both what should prove to be interesting matches.
In the re-arranged fixture from the first set of matches, Suivre Les Boules Playford and The Exiles Melton played their game a week later than scheduled due to Playfords pre-season trip to conquer Paris! In a closely fought match, judging by the scores, it ended in a 2-2 draw with The Exiles scoring 40 points against Suivres 39 points, showing how close things really were.Sunday May 4th sees Suivre
In the Blyth Division last Sunday, Hoxne PC played host to the team from North Cove 3 Horseshoes. Thanks to the modern wonders of technology, we are pleased to announce that our Suffolk Coastal Petanque League has joined forces with the Tokyo Petanque League in a 'twinning arrangement' whereby each league posts the other leagues website links. We teamed up with the Tokyo League as we believe the ideals that both leagues are trying to adhere to, are of similar like-mindedness.So a big 'konnichiw

Falling through my letterbox this morning, with a resounding thud, was my complimentary copy of the April edition of Suffolk Norfolk Life magazine (cost of £1.90).On page 45, is an article on petanque that I wrote back in February and appears completely unedited from my original composition. The photos, whilst not having captions, are as follows. The top right hand photo is action from last years f
Well despite the foul weather in this part of the world, a good sized turnout braved the elements and more significantly braved my presentation regarding the new Suffolk Coastal Petanque League. Other than maybe 2 in the room I had never met anybody previous to this get together so was certainly nervous in delivering the details despite working hard on them over the last few months.I hope that eve
Whilst we are expecting a reasonable sized entry for tomorrow nights Registration Event, we already have plans in place to sub-divide the entries into North and South sections respectively. This is to limit the amount of travelling that teams will do to away matches, albeit that teams will only have 5 or 6 away matches in the season.

Over 2006 the Aldeburgh Town Council paid for the construction of a petanque piste parallel to the seafront, just along from the Moot Hall. Located in front of the White Lion Hotel, it was sufficiently wide enough to host one match at a time and in the same year the Aldeburgh Carnival saw the debut of the Open Tournament as part of the Carnival festivities.Due to tight time schedules only 8 pairs
It was a delightful day up in Royal Oak, with the dappled shade, not too hot, not too cold, and plenty of boulers to compete with. Joe's friend Alex brought us tons of submarine sandwiches, and Joe even cooked up his own style of Petanque Sausages though the stuffing is a bit... tough.Present were: Joe Z., Jeff B., Jeff W., James H., Cheryl D., Michael, Denise B., Eric Z., Dan C., Ian, Alex, plus
I found this fantastic vintage photograph online and just had to share. If only there was a place like this in Brooklyn....

Jason G. is dedicated to his sport. So when he took a nasty fall a week ago, it didn't keep him from playing boule. And he'll be in his cast for at least another month, but at least he'll still remain active. In fact, our sport was conceived for people with mobility issues. Back in World War 1, veterans with missing or prosthetic limbs participated in Petanque games either standing in the circl
