What to do when you pass 83 years? Build a petanque court.

My Dad, 84 year old Raymond Fouquet, is a member of the Los Angeles Petanque Club. After my Mom died last year, he moved in with us. Since he moved away from his friends and weekly petanque match in Los Angeles, we decided to convert our front lawn into a petanque court.
We had a very boring, sloping front yard. We terraced it into three levels, with the top level having a 10' x 40' petanque court, surrounded by a putting green. It is up high enough so that passersby cannot see what is up there, however, by word of mouth, we have become the hit of the neighborhood!
We used 2 inches of roadbase gravel, then topped it off with 2 more inches of decomposed granite. We bordered it with 4x4's. The artificial putting green is on the same base.

Postcard-collection redesigned!
We have done some redesigning here, and things are starting to look a bit more like 2013. The last change was back in 2005, and that was our 5th redesign. So here we are in the middle of our 6th change since 1996.
