Dutch National League and Cup 2001

2001-06-01 12:02

Marco van Saane, Huib van Saane and Jelle Venema for the second time Dutch champion.
Ferdinand Wiese, Jan van de Bosch and Frank Schepers winners of the National Cup.

Marco van Saane, Huib van Saane and Jelle Venema, members of the petanque club Boule Plaisir, are the winners of the Dutch National League. In the final game on Sunday 7th of May, they beat Jean Degortes, Remko de Jong and Jack Schillemans (Les Cailloux 2) with 3-1 (13-6, 8-13, 13-9 and 13-10).

Ferdinand Wiese, Jan van de Bosch and Frank Schepers of the petanque club Midi are the winners of the Dutch National Cup (the successor of the former Boule d'Or competition). On Sunday the 20th of May, they beat Toon van Alebeek, Patrick Tuaux and Mart van Nunen (Plop) with 2-0 (13-6 and 13-11).

The Dutch National League is a competition that is divided in divisions, like all European football leagues, from the Honour Division to the 6th Division. At the end of the competition, there are play-offs for the eight best triples; the numbers one and two of those play-offs have to play a best of five final game. The triples in the National League must be members of the same club.

The Dutch National Cup is a knockout competition. The format is French pools (pools of four teams) for each round and at the end there is a best of three final game. The teams in the National Cup are triples, but they have the possibility to play with a fourth player, who can be lined op after each game, in a similar way as the Worldchampionship.

On the 10th of June, both teams have to play a best of five qualification game for the Worldchampionship in Monaco in September of this year.
